UECC is dedicated to maintaining an atmosphere with joy, excitement and pride in all of our children. We believe that the word discipline means “to teach the way.” It does not mean to punish. The best means for fostering good behavior is by establishing an environment that provides several things:

  • Respect for the ideas and desires of the students.
  • Encouragement and reinforcement for appropriate behavior.
  • Activities appropriate to the interests of the children in the group.
  • Simple, clear and consistent rules of behavior that are calmly, but firmly reinforced.

When it is necessary to intervene in a child’s behavior, it is important to emphasize consequences rather than punishment.

Any abuse or maltreatment of a child, either as an incident of discipline or otherwise, is prohibited. An abused or maltreated child means a child defined as an abused child or maltreated child pursuant to Section 412 of the Social Services Law. If a parent suspects their child has been abused or maltreated, they should contact the New York State Office of Children and Family Services at 1-800-732-5207.
All children must be dressed appropriately, particularly during the winter months. No child will be allowed in play area without proper soft soled shoes. All personal items (gloves, hats, etc.) must be clearly labeled with the child’s name. We cannot accept responsibility for lost personal items. NO JEWELRY IS ALLOWED FOR SAFETY AND SECURITY PURPOSES.
UECC is committed to equal opportunity for all children and families. We do not discriminate on the basis of marital status, race, sex, color, religion, national origin, age, veterans status, political affiliation, physical or mental handicap or sexual orientation.
